Of all the valuable skills in the workplace (good public speaker, Excel guru, well-organized, team player), one that gets overlooked is how to make nice with your boss - or as I've stated in the title: "how to kiss up to your boss."

Why is this important?  I ask you, why wouldn't it be?  Why would you not want to be on your boss's good side?  Do not be mistaken, I'm not suggesting tactics that will earn you the derision of your co-workers.  Rather I'm suggesting items we might forget in the everyday chaos and frustration of dealing with all the personalities that are present in the workplace.

Here are a couple of suggestions for a better working relationship with your boss.

Say "I don't know how you do it" in a sincere and appreciative tone.  Remember, of all the times that you're overwhelmed, your boss is dealing with even more and on a larger scale.  Let them know that you recognized that and respect their efforts.

Say "thank you!"  You know how good it feels when someone says "thank you" to you - especially for doing your job (i.e. what you're supposed to be doing).  Saying "thank you" to your boss will make them feel good, too.

When you challenge or questions your boss, don't do it in public.  You don't like to be put on the spot in public, so don't do it for them.  My preferred method is to send an email.  I title the subject "Opinions by Lutricia" and begin the email by stating that these are just my opinions and I'm sure there are details I'm not aware of, but here you go....  And I conclude my email with "thank you for taking the time to read this - no response is required.  I just wanted tot share these thoughts with you"  This saves your boss the time of having to draft a polite email telling you that you're out in left field (if your suggestions are way off base).

Show you care!  Ask about the recent vacation, how their kids are doing, or about their hobbies.  When you express you care, your boss will potentially demonstrate more compassion towards you.

Review your job description and make sure you're doing everything laid out in it.  If not, go to your boss and ask for clarification on how to implement further components of your responsibilities.  You'll get props for being conscientious and it might save you from being caught off guard in the future about something you should have been doing.

Sound simple?  I think so!  You can find all these ideas with your local relationship counselor as well!  Be nice, be appreciative and don't challenge your boss or loved one in public!

Lutricia is the Director of Sales at Roundtop Mountain Resort but she prefers to be called the "Empress of Fun!"  Lutricia says her job is fun - she enjoys talking to a wide variety of people, the products are fun (zip lines, OGO ball, paintball, skiing, etc) and the drive to work is fun (curvy country roads)!

Are you concerned about your financial future?  Then make a move.  The worst thing you can do is nothing at all!  If you've never taken a serious look at your finances, or if even thinking about your financial future makes you feel nervous, don't worry.  I can show you how taking small steps today can lead to bigger results tomorrow.

DId you know women face a retirement crisis?

Today women are living longer and spending more years in retirement.  Yet, many of us aren't saving enough money to fund those years.

Budget for SUCCESS - Set goals you can keep.  To achieve goals, make them concrete and specific.  Instead of "I want to save more for retirement," decide on a dollar figure that you want to sock away each month, and create an action plan with a due date.  For example, "I will set up monthly automatic withdrawals of $200 from my checking account into a retirement account on May 15."  It makes sense that people who plan and budget are wealthier than those who don't.

How important is your credit score and your financial identity?

Your credit score can determine more than you think.  One of the best ways to protect your credit score is to monitor it.  That way you can quickly identify if something "fishy" happens - and can take action to correct it - instead of getting caught off guard when it's time to apply for a loan or a job.

Marketing Committee - CPAFE Business Women's FORUM Coordinator
Independent Sales Director for Mary Kay Cosmetics

It's a sure sign that spring is here when the Business Women's FORUM comes to town!  That's right - the 18th Annual Business Women's FORUM (BWF) will be held Thursday, April 26th at the Radisson Hotel Harrisburg.  If you've never attended, you don't know what you're missing!  BWF is a day-long annual conference geared towards top business women from a wide range of careers.  It's a great opportunity to network, bond, and learn from one another.

As a growing leader, you know school is never out!  And we are sure to be amazed by this year's breakout sessions and keynote speaker - Areva Martin.  You may notice Areva from shows like Dr. Phil or CBS This Morning.  She's an award-winning attorney, author and TV personality coming to Central PA to help us regain our "Freedom to Breathe."  It's a session that will surely leave you with an empowering game plan for success!

Attendees will have an opportunity to chose from a variety of breakout sessions including how to "Create a Customer Care Culture," "Get Caught Doing Good," and "The Invisible Bridge: The Chasm of Fear."  Of course, don't miss out seeing one of CPAFE's very own teaching this year!  Doctor Lucia Murphy, better known as Dr. Murph, will be teaching "Breaking Through Leadership - Effective Branding for People Who are Ready to be Noticed."  Her session will explain how consumer products get branded and what you can do to stand out in the crowd.

What I love most is the exhibitor area!  It's a chance to network and find out about other businesses in our area.  CPAFE will have a booth, as well, so please don't forget to stop by and say hello!  Myself along with our CPAFE President Jessica Warren will be distributing goodie bags!

Tickets are still available to attend this year's BWF!  To register, visit businesswomensforum.com.  The investment is $130 for Chamber members and $290 for non-members.  Your ticket includes lunch and all breakout sessions.

    Hope to See You There!
